Wang Fosong was born in 23 May, 1933 in Xingning, Guangdong. He is currently a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and has been recognized as an outstanding expert nationwide.

Graduated from the Department of Chemistry of Wuhan University in 1955, he then studied in the Leningrad Institute of Polymer Science of the Soviet Academy of Sciences and earned a Vice-Doctorate Degree in 1960. In the same year, Wang returned to China, and started to work in Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry until the year 1988 and was chosen as the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He stayed there until 1994, and had been providing part-time services in a great number of national scientific associations, as well as a various number of scientific publications and was employed as part-time professor by many well-known universities.

Apart from all these occupations, Wang was also selected as a member of the CPPCC National Committee in 1988, and as a member of the NPC Standing Committee in 1993.

Since the end of 1960, Wang became the leader of a research group tasked to study polybutadiene rubber, and his group finally succeeded after going through innumerable trials. He invented a unique method of making polybutadiene rubber with a quality no inferior to foreign products. He also took part in another important national project of isoprene rubber, and invented a whole new energy-saving production technology. His great contributions set a firm foundation of China`s domestic rubber industry.

In the early 1980s, Wang, cooperated with Professor Qian Renyuan, started researching on conductive polymer, and finally harvested a series of valuable and influential fruits that received high recognition and appreciations worldwide.

In the early 1990s, Wang, cooperated with Professor Qi Zongneng, started another research on polymer-inorganic nanocomposite, and had successfully produced a series  of nanocomposites with performances of high heat-proof, modulus, strength and barrier property far better than the traditional composites.

In his career, Wang has published more than 200 papers(excluding conference reports) in academic publications both domestic and foreign; co-edited and co-translated 1 monograph respectively; cultivated more than 10 Doctors and nearly 20 Masters since 1978; and has also won several weighty national scientific awards.
