A Silver Medalist for WHU in the GMC International Final in Macao

The international final of the 2016 Global Management Challenge (GMC) embracing the presence of 26 countries was held from April 18 to 20 in Macao. The team of MBA program from the School of Economics and Management of Wuhan University named “Sifanggu” claimed the second prize.

In the knockout round, the champion teams of 25 countries were divided into 4 groups. All the groups had to make 6 to 10 phases of business decisions within a day, assessing company investment performance according to the overall operation, comprehensive net asset, net profit, stock market value and development expectation. WHU team ranked the second place in the world top eight and made to the international final.

When it comes to the fierce final, WHU team ranked top three in the previous phases of decision by adopting a prudent strategy. As in their third year to gain the championship of GMC, the Russian team held a safe lead in the final because of their rich experience. At the last phase, WHU team advanced from the third place to the second place after making a great effort. Finally, the Russian team gained the championship and our team claimed the second price of GMC.

Global Management Challenge (GMC) is a strategic management competition accredited by EFMD for managers and university students. The concept of GMC emerged in 1980 in Portugal. It is now the world's biggest strategic management competition. More than 400,000 university students and company managers around the world participated in GMC since 1980. The Global Management Challenge came to Macao in 1996 and the event has been organized by the MMA—Macao Management Association, which was formally constituted in October 1984.
