Guard the stars—to care for the autistic children

In the afternoon of November 25th, six volunteers from the Young Volunteer Association of our school attended the volunteer activity about caring for autistic children. They went to “the taste of stars” family activity center for autistic children with the task of teaching children to make banana pie.

At one o’clock in the afternoon, the activity started formally. After the volunteers' concise self-introductions, the activity leader began to distribute tasks to them. The five volunteers were asked to look after five children and accompany each of them one-to-one.

According to the lesson, the first step was weighing teaching, which in other words, is weighing a specified amount of rice, using an electronic scale. Easy as the assignment seemed, it's a difficult challenge to the kids. But with the effort of the kids, they all fulfilled the task successfully.

The following is baking teaching. This time, the kids would be taught to make a complete banana pie. However, the production process wasn't a plain sailing, for the kids were not familiar to rolling pins. Sometimes the banana pie they made didn't get the teachers' approval, but they still kept great enthusiasm from beginning to the end, and never lost heart. Everything comes to him who waits. Finally, they finished making the banana pie successfully.

While waiting for the banana pie coming out, volunteers taught the kids to sing. In laughter and joy, the banana pie came out, and the kids all enjoyed the delicious banana pie very much.

This afternoon is really unforgettable. These children are like the stars in the sky, shining alone in the distant and dark night sky. Volunteers hope to give these children some care and warm through their own actions, and hope that the community can improve their understanding of autism. I hope that more people can care for the autistic children group, give the autistic children more opportunities, more understanding, more care and encouragement. Hoping that the autistic children can be no longer lonely, and the stars cannot be lonely either.
