Prof. Liu Yaolin elected as International Eurasian Academy of Sciences Academician

Recently, the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences (IEAS) has awarded Liu Yaolin, professor from the School of Resource and Environmental Sciences, Wuhan University, the fellowship of IEAS, as recommended by China Science Center of IEAS and reviewed by the Presidium of IEAS.

Prof. Liu Yaolin is honored as distinguished professor of Chang Jiang Scholars Program in Geographic Information System, one of leading talents in “Ten-thousand Talents Program”, national prominent educator, national excellent worker of science and technology, director of an innovation team supported by Ministry of Natural Resources. Also, he is the vice president of China Committee of International Council of Scientific Union (ICSU), vice president of International Cartographic Association (ICA), member of discipline evaluation group of the Academic Degree Commission of the State Council, executive member of China Land Science Society, vice president of Chinese Society for Geodesy Photogrammetry and Cartographic (CSGPC), and the domain expert of 863 Program, etc. Apart from his long-term commitment to land resources investigation, evaluation and planning, he has also been devoted to the teaching, research and application of land information technologies and applied engineering. He is an active advocator of and participant in the construction of land science and engineering subject, who keeps trying to innovate land technologies and upgrade land resources management. His innovative researches have got globally influential achievements and well serve the national natural resources managements, which obtain a widely recognized academic reputation and realized a good transformation from research to application.

Founded in 1994, IEAS now has more than 600 academicians, correspondence academicians and honorary members from 46 countries across Europe, Asia, North America, South America and Australia. It has set up national science centers in 15 countries including France, Germany, Russia and China. In 1996, China Science Center of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences (IEAS (CHINA)) was established upon the approval of Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST). At present, it comprises 10 departments such as Geo-information Science, Technology and Engineering, Resources and Energy, Economics, Bioscience, Medicine and Agronomy, and Urban Science.

IEAS organizes the academician election every two years, and the candidates are generated via the recommendation of academicians only. Each IEAS academician can recommend two candidates at most, and each candidate should gain the co-recommendation of at least three academicians. Then, the candidate who is approved by over two-thirds of the votes in the academician assembly can be successfully elected. Last October, IEAS (CHINA) held its 19th academician assembly and awarded 18 academicians.
