Fang Cheng: Distinguished Alumni of Wuhan University


Fang Cheng, originally named Shunchao SUN, was born on June 10th, 1918. Had left his hometown Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, he graduated in chemistry from Wuhan University in 1942. He served as a research assistant at The Yellow Sea Chemical Research Institute before he shifted to another distinctive field in journalism. As the chief editor and the staff writer of the comic version of The Observer, he was the graphic editor of Xinmin in Beijing as well, plus the senior editor of People’s Daily. He was appointed as an assistant professor of the Journalism Department in both Wuhan University and Zhengzhou University in 1984. Two years later, he became engaged as an editor of Witty World, an international comic published in the U.S. Same year, he made the art consultant of the Department of Chinese Vocal Music and Performing Arts of China Broadcast. Currently he is the president of the Society for Research on News and Comics in China. (Translated by Yaotian Shi from the Translation Group of CCMS)
