Jun​ Ke:Distinguished Alumni of Wuhan University


Jun Ke, born in Huangyan, Zhejiang Province on June 23, 1917. He graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Wuhan University in 1938. In 1944, he went studying abroad at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and obtained a doctorate from the same university afterwards. He has served as lifelong lecturer of the Department of Theoretical Metallography in the University of Birmingham, the research leader of Transformation Kinetics Group, professor of Beijing University of Iron and Steel Technology (Now University of Science and Technology Beijing), director and deputy dean of Physical Chemistry Department in Beijing University of Iron and Steel Technology, Deputy director of Teaching and Research Office of Magnetism and Metal Physics of the Department of Physics, Peking University, Honorary researcher of Institute of Metal, CAS, member of Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, member of Material Discipline Group of the National Science and Technology Committee, vice president of Chinese Electron Microscope Academy, director-general of Chinese History of Science and Technology Society, director-general of the Society for Materials Science, Chinese Society for Metals, vice president of International Society for the History of Science and Medicine in East Asia, director of International Union of History and Philosophy Science and Technology (IUHPST), etc.


  He is now senior academician of Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), adviser to the president of University of Science and Technology Beijing, chief editor of Acta Metallurgica Sinica, editorial board member of Die Forschung Stahl, Germany, deputy head of the Advisory Group on the Reform of Teaching Content and Curriculum System for Higher Education of the Ministry of Education in twenty-first Century, consultant of Education Committee of Chinese Academy of Engineering, director-general of Chinese Society of Scientific Archaeology, honorary director-general of the Chinese Society for the History of Science and Technology.
