From October 26th to the 27th, about 600 scholars and experts from over 30 countries gathered in Wuhan University (WHU) to discuss global health issues at the 45th Asia Pacific Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) Conference.
The conference was by far one of the largest international academic conferences held at WHU since its establishment. It is also among the major events to showcasing WHU’s 120 anniversary.
At the opening ceremony, President Li Xiaohong explained that WHU is committed to promoting global health research and development in China. WHU is the first university to launch an undergraduate and master’s program in China and is among the first universities to establish a global health research institute in China. President Li hoped that WHU faculty and students could contribute to theoretical discussions and networking with scholars about practical experiences to improve human wellbeing.
The president of APACPH, Mohd Amin Jalaludin said that the conference will positively influence Wuhan’s health programs and will more generally improve the field of global health.
President Li awarded Chen Zhihe, chairman of the China Medical Board the “Outstanding Contribution Prize in Global Health,” while Li Liming, the Executive President of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical School presented the “Contribution Award to Asia-Pacific public health service” to Professor Mohd Amin Jalaludin. They were awarded for their efforts in improving the health of Asia-Pacific region peoples.
The two-day conference included 5 invited speakers, 26 keynote speeches and 42 symposiums. It attracted more than 1,300 submissions from Asia, Europe, America, and Oceania, 470 of which were selected for oral and poster presentations. Some of the excellent papers will be published in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Public Health.
APACPH is an international, non-profit organization, comprising many of the largest and most influential schools of Public Health in the Asia-Pacific region. It is dedicated to improving professional education for public health. Through its activities, the members aim to tackle the unique public health challenges of the Asia-Pacific region, such as specific health issues of workers within the growing economies of the region.
