Wuhan University (China)-University of the Punjab (Pakistan) Luotian Base of Joint Research Center for Honglian Type Hybrid Rice inaugurated

On April 23, the inauguration ceremony of the Wuhan University (China)-University of the Punjab (Pakistan) Luotian Base of Joint Research Center for Honglian Type Hybrid Rice was held in Luotian County, Huanggang City. The project is dedicated to building a large-scale, standardized, and modernized national hybrid rice seed production base.

Ye Xianlin, Secretary of the leading Party members groups of the Hubei Association for Science and Technology and Executive Vice President, Tang Qizhu, Standing Committee member of the Party Committee of Wuhan University and Vice President of WHU, Wang Anhuai, Senior Supervisory Commissioner of the Department of Science and Technology dispatched by the Office of the CPC Hubei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Hubei Provincial Supervisory Commission and member of the Party Leadership Group of the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, the team led by Prof. Zhu Renshan from the College of Life Sciences of Wuhan University, the heads of relevant departments in Huanggang City, Luotian County and Hepu Town, and the heads of relevant enterprises in Hubei Province attended the inauguration ceremony. Chen Shilong, member of the CPC Luotian County Committee and Chairman of the CPPCC Luotian County Committee, presided over the ceremony. Ye Xianlin and Tang Qizhu unveiled the plaque of the base.

Subsequently, the participants visited the Luotian Base Exhibition Hall of the Joint Research Center for Honglian Hybrid Rice and listened to Prof. Zhu Renshans introduction to the bases construction and relevant varieties of Honglian type hybrid rice.

After the ceremony, the Honglian Type Hybrid Rice Luotian Base Development Conference was held in the Peoples Government of Hepu Town. Li Xuejun, Deputy Party Secretary of the Luotian County and Secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Luotian Committee, presided over the meeting. At the meeting, Zhu Renshou expounded the urgency and necessity of building a seed production base in Luotian. The governments of Huanggang, Luotian and Hepu Town claimed that they would fully support the construction of the Luotian base. Representatives of enterprises such as Hubei Seed Group, Huashan United Development Group, and Hubei Guobaoqiao Rice Company, expressed their expectations for the construction of the Luotian base and their willingness to cooperate with it.

Ye Xianlin gave full recognition to the construction of the Luotian base and emphasized that resources should be integrated to steadily serve agriculture, rural areas, farmers, and overall rural revitalization on a larger scale and at a higher level, turning agriculture into a shining brand name of Luotian County.

As a response to the policies of the Luotian County Party Committee and the County Government, the project, initiated by Zhu Renshan, is an international cooperation project utilizing the advantages of policies, location, and ecology in his hometown. By combining technical advantages, it aims to build a Honglian type hybrid rice seed production base. It is included in the key support list by the China Association for Science and Technology in 2020-2022 concerning the construction of cooperation platforms for scientific and technological international organizations under the Belt and Road Initiative. It will build a sample project of a fully mechanized and intelligent hybrid rice seed production base, a research and study base for agricultural tourism and science popularization intended for citizens and primary and secondary school students across the province, a high-level farmers cooperative in technological seed production, and a demonstration base for the integration of Honglian type hybrid rice with government, industry, education, research, and tourism.
