WHU presidents attend the "Global University Leaders Forum" of the second World Health Expo

On November 12, the 2nd World Health Expo & Global University Leaders Forum ——"China and the World in the Post-pandemic Era" was held at the Wuhan International Conference Center. The distinguished specialists from top universities in China and the United States conducted in-depth discussions, online and offline, on the impact of the pandemic on science and society, as well as the future of global economic integration in the post-pandemic era. President Dou Xiankang attended the forum, and Vice President Tang Qizhu presided over it.

In his opening speech, Dou Xiankang pointed out that the unexpected outbreak of COVID-19 has posed a severe public health security threat to all mankind and put health issues in the global spotlight. The tribulation and baptism of human disasters often highlight the mission and value of the university. Looking back at the battle against the COVID-19, Wuhan University, the "main battlefield" of the pandemic, has handed over a perfect answer. Facing the COVID-19, Wuhan University has always been at the forefront of the fight, sharing experience and achievements in a timely manner, and contributing wisdom and strength to the global anti-pandemic campaign positively. Universities are not only a center for scientific and technological innovation and talent cultivation, but also an important window for international communication and cooperation. Universities should uphold the vision of a community with shared future for mankind, focus on common problems of mankind, and respond with more open mindset and measures to jointly create a better future for mankind through mutually beneficial cooperation.

Chen Honghui, vice mayor of Wuhan Municipal People's Government and member of the CPC Leading Group, and Mark Elliot, Vice President and tenured professor of Harvard University, delivered their congratulations respectively. Ye Zhimin, Professor of Health Economics and Policy at Harvard School of Public Health and Acting Director of the Harvard Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Song Min, Dean of School of Economics and Management at Wuhan University and other experts delivered wonderful guest speeches. Chen Dongsheng, Director of the Dong Fureng Economic & Social Development School, the chairman, CEO and founder of the Taikang Insurance Group, made the concluding remarks

The forum is divided into three main parts: "The Impact of the Post-Pandemic Era on Science and Society", "The Future under Global Economic Integration", two keynote speeches and round-table discussions, as well as the summary and outlook of the forum. Experts discussed the COVID-19 and its wide impact on global public health, how to achieve sustainable development of Sino-U.S. cooperation, and the impact of  COVID-19 on China's economy.

Song Min, Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Wuhan University, Yao Yang, Dean of the National School of Development of Peking University, Xiao Ruiping, Director of the Institute of Molecular Medicine of Peking University, Dean of the School of Future Technology and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The New England Journal of Medicine(NEJM) delivered wonderful speeches. Experts from Harvard University, Emory University, Columbia University, National University of Singapore and Tsinghua University also shared their thoughts on the post-pandemic era via remote video.

Chen Dongsheng concluded that today's Wuhan is an open city, a city with restored economy and full of vitality. The world needs cooperation. It is hoped that this forum will promote mutual research and exchanges between China and the United States on global public health, propel the establishment of a common global public health system, and push forward the long-term friendship between China and the United States.

It is reported that this forum has attracted more than 400 leaders from universities, enterprises and all walks of life to participate in the purpose of contributing specialistic wisdom and scholastic views to global anti-pandemic cooperation and economic restart, to jointly discuss how to create new opportunities in the crisis, and to promote scientific and technological innovation and industrial development around the world.
