It is March 7th. Zheng Xinyi was about to go to a Zhongbai store (a supermarket chain in Wuhan) on Huayuan road and serve as a volunteer.
Zheng, born in 1997, is a junior student majoring in Ideological and Political Education at the School of Marxism of Wuhan University. Not long after the outbreak of novel coronavirus, she actively signed up for volunteer service. Now she works as an online tutor for children whose parents are fighting on the front line against this pandemic disease. Moreover, she keeps working at a Zhongbai store, sorting and packing vegetables to help secure the supply of collective purchase in communities. She recalled, “My father didn’t agree on my idea of being a volunteer when I put that forward at first. He thought it was too risky because of my poor health.” However, she still applied for volunteer without hesitation. “I am a Wuhaner,” she said, “It’s my duty to do something for my city.”
“Tired but enjoyable” is the strongest feeling of Zheng. Apart from the volunteering job, she also has schoolwork to do. Sometimes she is too busy to go to bed before 2 or 3 a.m. “Although it’s a little bit tiring, I feel fulfilled in my heart, because I have devoted my energy to my hometown. I sincerely wish we ride out the storm as soon as possible, and then I can go back to school and enjoy the cherry blossoms.”
