According to the recently published QS World University Rankings of 2014 to 2015, Wuhan University ranked 335th, with an increase of 75 compared to that of last year, and it was the first time that Wuhan University has entered into the top 400.
Qiu Junping, the Dean of the Research Center for China’s Science Evaluation and a Professor of WHU’s School of Information Management, introduced that the ranking is based on four core aspects: scientific research, teaching, employment and internationalization, and six evaluation indicators have been adopted: academic reputation (40%), employer evaluation (10%), student-to-faculty ratio (20%), citation ratio of teachers (20%), the number of international students (5%), and international faculty (5%). According to the QS list, three of the standards mentioned above in WHU (academic reputation, employer evaluation and international faculty) were ranked in the top 300.
Qiu pointed out that the steady rise of Wuhan University’s ranking from 492nd in 2011 to 335th in 2014 indicates that WHU’s international competence and influence are rapidly improving, and that it maintains good momentum and builds its own brand. Qiu thought that there is much room for improving in the citation ratio of teachers, and WHU should take measures to encourage teachers to improve the quality of articles.
