The new year has brought good news to Wuhan University. The Chinese alumni website has ranked Wuhan University in the top 5 in its 2014
Chinese University Assessment Report.
Central South University’s Professor Cai Yanhou, an expert for the Chinese alumni website’s research team, said that on its 120th anniversary, WHU faculty and students, through their hard work, improved several core areas that factored into the rankings such as quality of education disciplines, scientific awards, excellent alumni, alumni donation and media influence. He pointed out the ranking reflects the university’s contribution to the nation and society and its strength in university management.
The ranking received strong media attention as well as inspiring many WHU faculty, students, alumni and parents to send congratulations to Wuhan University.
The ranking also attracted government attention. Hubei Province party committee secretary Li Hongzhong congratulated “Wuhan University for it gets the best ranking in history and hope it can do better in the future.”
This is the 12 year that Chinese alumni website publishes the ranking. The top 5 universities are Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University and Wuhan University. In the 2014 Chinese alumni donation list, WHU also ranks top 5 with alumni donations of 543 million RMB.
Yunnan Normal University’s Associate Professor Feng Yongjun, an expert for the Chinese alumni website’s research team, pointed out that a good university not only lead to students with high earning potential, but inculcates in the alumni a desire to assist their alma mater as well.
A WHU official pointed out that there are a lot of university rankings with different standards and concepts. They to some extent show the development and achievement of the university, which helps university have a clearer view of itself. What’s more important to WHU is improving its place among the world’s leading universities. To establish an internationally renowned university with Chinese characteristics is Wuhan University’s mission. In 2014, WHU will take the opportunity to further reform and advance.
