On July 27th, the closing ceremony for WHU’s eighth International Spoken English Training Course was held in the main hall of Humanities Building where all the faculty and students were so thrilled that they sang together the classic Amercian song Country Road.

30 English teachers from more than ten prestigious universities in the U.S. were invited to teach in this year’s three-week Summer Spoken English Training Course for the purpose of enhancing the English speaking ability of 800 WHU’s students and their awareness of American culture.

As the closing ceremony began, the creative and amusing performance of a group of foreign teachers’ children caught the eye of audiences. Later, a variety of performances were put on show by students and their foreign teachers, reflecting the teaching outcoming amid the Sino-US culture collision and hand-in-hand developmemt. The ceremony reached the climax when all the teachers and students sang together Country Road and the stage turned into a “bonfire party”.

Feng Youmei, executive vice president of WHU, delivered a speech in English that highly appreciated the achivements made in this training course. An U.S. teacher representative made a speech to summarize this summer project in Chinese. More than ten American teachers were also invited to join in the WHU’s alumni association and were awarded with certificates.

After the ceremony, students rushed to take photoes with foreign teachers and chat with them. Some students said:“Three weeks passed so quickly. The classes were intense, but we were happy because we befriended foreign teachers and made a lot of progress on oral English and social competence. We wish the class would continue for more weeks.”  The U.S. group leader acknowledged that this summer class was successful and hoped that the next one would be better.
