China’s Ministry of Education has funded Wuhan University 14.5 million Yuan for its eight programs to enhance undergraduate education.
The approved programs are: a training program to improve students’ innovation and entrepreneurship, three programs to establish practice and education centers outside of the University, a program to establish a clinical skills training center, and pilot programs to reform and improve three different majors.
The goal of the training program is to develop students’ innovate capacity so as to provide a young crop of entrepreneurs to lead China’s innovation in the 21st century.
The programs to establish practice and education centers will further this goal of fostering young entrepreneurs through WHU’s networking with research institutions, industries, enterprises and other relevant social organizations to provide practical training.
The clinical skills training center will provide a high level teaching center, with advanced research technology, clinical simulation equipment, and teachers with management expertise.
The reform programs are designed for WHU’s civil engineering, survey & map engineering and remote sensing science & technology majors. Through reforms in the teaching models, teaching teams, management, course design and textbooks, the overall teaching quality will be greatly improved.
WHU is now implementing the support programs as part of the nation-wide Undergraduate Teaching Quality-Improving and Reforming Project in Higher Education Institutions. WHU aims to reform its teaching platforms and create a conducive environment for students to innovate, including encouraging teachers to play a more active role in their students’ education and inviting outstanding professionals with working experience to guide students. WHU plans on comprehensively reforming 30 majors by integrating existing education resources, , adopting new education models, curriculum, and textbooks, hiring new teaching staff, and utilizing new methods of teaching management. By undertaking these reforms, a successful model can be developed to advance the general educational curriculum, thus further advancing the quality of education at Wuhan University and cementing its reputation as a top-tier university and educational innovator.
