American Professor of WHU Honoured by Government for Contributions

On the evening of 28th September 2011, the government of Hubei Province held National Day reception and also the 2011 Awarding Ceremony of Chime Bells Friendship Award for outstanding foreign experts who work in the province. Prof. Renslow SHERER, visiting professor of Wuhan University (WHU) from the United States of America, was conferred the award for his contributions. 

Prof. SHERER is a visiting professor from the Dept. of Infectious Diseases, Medical School of the University of Chicago. As the advocator of the WHU-Chicago Medical Education Reform Project, he serves as the project leader of the US side. In the meantime, he works for the World Health Organization contributing to the compilation of guidelines for HIV/AIDS prevention, and also for the World Health Foundation as technical supervisor of the Sino-US Joint Training Program of AIDS Prevention. Since 2003, Prof. SHERER has visited Hubei more than 30 times, making significant contributions to the medical staff training and medical education cause of the province.

Reportedly, the Chime Bells Friendship Award was initiated in 1994 by the provincial government to commend those foreign experts who have done their bit for the province, which is also the highest honour of its kind in Hubei.

Up to now, there have been 9 foreign members of staff of WHU respectively from Belgium, France, and the United States who were honoured by the government.
