On December 5, Ahmadou Aly Mbaye, president of Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in Senegal, along with the secretary, visited Wuhan University (WHU). Tang Qizhu, vice president of WHU, met with the guests in the Administration Building. Officials of the WHU Office of International Affairs also attended the meeting.

Tang Qizhu warmly welcomed President Ahmadou Aly Mbaye on his repeat visit to WHU. He said that UCAD is a long-term partner of WHU, actively participating in the 5th China-France-Africa Tripartite Forum On Higher Education hosted by WHU. The two universities have similar scales and disciplinary settings, providing a solid foundation and broad prospects for institutional cooperation.
Ahmadou Aly Mbaye said that scholars from both universities frequently visited each other, fostering a deep and enduring friendship. During this visit, he was deeply impressed by the Intellectual Computing Laboratory for Cultural Heritage at WHU. He wished to negotiate and determine specific areas for cooperation, further enhancing collaboration between the universities and across faculties in various fields.
The two presidents exchange gifts
UCAD, formerly known as University of Dakar (French: Université de Dakar), was renamed in honor of the great Senegalese scholar Cheikh Anta Diop on March 30, 1987. The university has a long history, with its predecessors being the French West Africa School of Medicine (French: École africaine de Médecine) founded in 1918, the French Institute of Black Africa (French: Institut français d’Afrique noire) founded in 1936 and the Institute of Advanced Studies of Dakar (French: Institut des Hautes Études de Dakar) founded in 1950. It officially established its partnership with WHU in May 2017. Scholars from UCAD have visited WHU multiple times to give lectures, and WHU has sent doctoral students to the university for joint training.
