On October 31, M. Hossein Ayati, associate professor and vice chancellor of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) in Iran, visited Wuhan University (WHU). Tang Qizhu, vice president of Wuhan University, was joined by Song Enfeng, head of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Lei Shifu, party secretary of the School of International Education, Gui Ling, deputy director of the Office of International Affairs, other officials and students to meet with the guest.

Vice President Tang gave a warm welcome to Ayati. He briefly introduced the academic background and related disciplinary advantages of WHU. He said that WHU is willing to conduct more extensive exchanges and in-depth cooperation with overseas universities, and hopes to cooperate closely with TUMS in scientific research, faculty and student exchanges, and joint training of students.
Ayati expressed his gratitude for the warm reception by WHU. He introduced the history, academic disciplines and key features of TUMS. He pointed out that WHU enjoyed a excellent reputation overseas for its long history and strong academic capabilities. Finally, he is looking forward to establishing a solid partnership with WHU in the field of medicine.
After the meeting, Ayati visited the east campus of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, accompanied by Song Enfeng, Gui Ling and other officials. He had an informal discussion and exchanged points of view with Yu Kaihuan, vice president of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and Tang Yanqing, head nurse of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department, and also talked with hospitalized patients.
TUMS is reportedly the oldest, largest and top-ranked medical educational institution in Iran, and the only Iranian university in the Medical Institution Consortium Shanghai Cooperation Organization. It consists of ten faculties with 16 affiliated hospitals and 113 research institutes. Currently, there are 1,910 teachers, 11,543 local students and 1,662 international students from 48 countries and regions at the institution. In addition, it has a UNESCO Chair in Bioethics as well as four centers collaborating with the World Health Organization.
