On 24 November, Wuhan University held a gala to celebrate the 75th year of the establishment of The People’s Republic of China and the 25th year of Macao’s return to the motherland. The event took place in the Students’ Activities Centre of the Faculty of Information Science.
On the evening, four hosts, one each originating from Macao, Anhui, Henan, and Hubei, entered the stage, symbolizing the progress achieved together by the young people of WHU who hail from the Mainland and Macao.
The gala proceeded in four stages. The first part, titled ‘75 Years to Prosperity’ began with a passionate song, Descendants of the Chinese Dragon, and a powerful dance, which lifted the audience. This was followed by an appreciation of the classical and elegant beauty of Eastern styles in the music of The History, Chinese people’s pure love for their motherland in The Love Goes On, and the fusion of fine traditional Chinese culture and modern art form in the rap China.
The second part was themed ‘The Returning of Macao’. The first performance, the classical Cantonese song A Good Song for You, made members of the audience from Macao feel right at home. Next, the earnest recitation of a piece of modern poetry, We, Macao, by students from the Mainland and Macao in both Mandarin and Cantonese, conveyed their love for China and their gratitude for the time. The performance of the song No Matter How Far embodied the connection between lovers as well as their expectations for happiness. The section ended with an adaptation of the musical LaLaLand, performed by students from the School of Art and telling the story of the adaptation and growth of young people from Macao at WHU.
The third part, ’Brighter Future of Macao’, began gracefully with the ballet Juliet's Variation. Following the romantic song The Star Sky, the traditional Chinese dance The Beauty of Colors led the audience into a marvelous world. By passing on the determination of the unity of the young generation from the Mainland and Macao, the performance Return With The Wind touched the audience with its modern and popular elements.
The final part of the gala, ‘Looking Into The Future’, began with another adaptation, the song My Future. The group dance As Bright as the Stars exhibited the vigor and confidence of the young generation, while The Song of Seven Sons and Vast Ocean, Broad Sky, two Cantonese songs sung by Macao students, demonstrated touching patriotism and idealism. Eventually, My Country, sung by Mrs Liu Di, the ZhiYun Harmonic Choir, and the chorus of the College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, put a cheerful ending to the Gala.
By integrating multiple art forms such as singing, dancing, reciting, and musical performing, the gala was an expression of the blessings for Macao, and of the deep love that the young generations of Macao and the Mainland feel for their motherland, and their confidence in achieving greater progress in the new era.
