The Wuhan Open is one of the top tennis competitions in China and began last Friday. A special tennis game was also held in Wuhan University, which drew great attention on campus.

On Sep. 21st, Victoria Azarenka, the famous star of WTA (Women’s Tennis Association), who has won the grand slam twice, paid a visit to Wuhan University and played a friendly tennis game with President Li Xiaohong, who is also a tennis enthusiast, in Song Qing gym.

After a joyful warm-up match between Azarenka and a student representative Wang Yinan, it was the real show-time when President Li stepped on the court. During the whole game between the two, waves of applause and cheers never died down from the crowd. Azarenka who is 180 cm tall was impressively swift and quick in action and was smiling all the time. President Li, however, also displayed his proficient skills and excited the viewers with his speed and energy. At last, Azarenka won this friendly game by a narrow victory.

After the game, Azarenka was presented a souvenir of WHU from President Li and she also chatted cordially with students from WHU’s tennis team.

As far as President Li is concerned, Azarenka sets a good example for the students of striving to be the top in one’s own field. “I myself am a big fan of tennis and I hope WHU students are not only outstanding academically but also athletically in the playground.”
