Nov. 29th, 2014 marked the 121st anniversary of WHU. On this day, a good number of distinguished alumni reunited at WHU to attend the 1st Alumni Luojia Forum. They discussed on the topic of ‘Macroeconomic transformation and Law-ruled China under the New Normal and shared their own success stories to encourage the young.

At the beginning of the opening ceremony, the President of Wuhan University, Li Xiaohong, introduced the purpose and the goals of the forum. The Alumni Luojia Forum, hosted by the Alumni Entrepreneur Association of Wuhan University, wishes to become an annual event. Extraordinary alumni would not only lecture on the trendiest topics, but also assist the students on campus to start their own business through setting up the Luojia Venture Capital Funds.

In the session of keynote speeches, the presence of several Chinese leading figures in the fields of economy, technology and law, excited and inspired hundreds of students in the auditorium.

Chen Dongsheng, the chairman and CEO of Taikang Life Insurance Company Limited, maintained that enterprises might fade away in time while universities usually live longer. Referring to the experience of reputed western universities like Harvard, Yale, etc., it becomes crucial for businessmen to take root in their alma mater in order to exploit resources and create business opportunities.

Chen’s idea was later resonated with that of Leijun, the founder and CEO of China's mobile company Xiaomi, who is also an entrepreneur idol for many Chinese young people. Leijun said that Wuhan University was the threshold of his dream, where he got all his credits within only 2 years in the school of Computer Sciences and spent another two years pondering upon a question – whether ordinary people can establish companies which in turn can influence the whole world. Bearing this goal in mind, he set out his entrepreneurial journey step by step, entered the mobile phone market when it was at its peak, at the right time. ‘When the typhoon hits, even a pig can fly. It is of vital importance to grasp the opportunity to fulfill your dream’. His frank suggestions received ecstatic applause.

Mao Zhenhua and Zhu Zhengfu, were the other two outstanding alumni also addressing their speeches regarding practical issues of economy and law. The keynote speech was followed by a theme forum and several sub-forums centering respectively on the topic of internet finance, China governed by law, the retirement industry and so on. The entrepreneurs present at the forum discussed in depth various issues concerning their fields of expertise.
