Envoys from Ten Countries Discuss Cooperation at WHU

On March 27th, a delegation consisting of envoys from ten countries, such as Chile, Peru and Venezuela, visited WHU to discuss cooperation on personnel training and scientific research.

When meeting with delegates, Vice President Li Fei mentioned that since 2004 WHU has accepted 51 students from Latin American and Caribbean countries and a majority of these students covers a large number of disciplines, including Chinese Language, Law, Economy, Water Conservancy, Clinical Medicine, News, Political Science and others. WHU emphasizes the enhancement of communication and cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean colleges and universities and welcomes more and more students from these countries.

Mr. Jorge Heign, Chilean ambassador, addressed a speech Across the Pacific: Latin America and Asia in a New Century at the College of International Education. Jorge Heign said that Chile is the first South American country to establish formal diplomatic relation with China and he believed that a closer cooperation between China and Latin America, in particular, between China and Chile, will lead to an increase in the bilateral trade and will promote growth in tourism and culture industry of two countries.

The delegation later visited State Key laboratory of Information Sciences in Surveying and Mapping and Remote Sensing. CAS and CAE member Li Deren gave a brief introduction to the laboratory and its research results in recent years. Professor Gong Wei accompanied the delegation in the tour of the laboratory.

The delegates reached a consensus that they will send more students to study at WHU. They also hoped that in the near future both sides would strengthen cooperation in terms of innovation, scientific research so as to achieve mutual benefit.
