WHU Alumni Connection Grows Stronger Than Ever

Recently, two new WHU Alumni Associations were established in Ottawa and in Greater New York respectively. Up to now, there are 36 overseas alumni associations of WHU and 135 domestic ones.

Han Jin, Chair of the University Council,WHU, presented the flags to two new associations and introduced the development and achievments that WHU has made in recent years. He also mentioned that the university will strongly support the development of WHU associations over the world.

On May 9th, over 50 alumni from Ottawa, Gatineau and Montreal gathered together to witness the establishment of WHU’s alumni association in Ottawa. Mr. Jian Zheng, who graduated from Chemistry Department in 1997 and currently holds a high-level researcher position at Natural Resources Canada, was elected President. Ms. Wei Xie, who graduated from the Department of Space Physics in 1993 who is now the President of Systemway, a consulting company, was elected Secretary of the Association, while Mr. Jiang Liu, President of Hubei Natives Association in Ottawa, was chosen as an honorary Vice President. The members of the council and relevant rules of the association were confirmed during the meeting. New working plans were also put forward.

On May 23rd, 120 alumni attended the inauguration ceremony of Greater New York Alumni Association. “We chose to hold the opening inauguration ceremony in the renowned Harvard University, indicating that we are committed to building up a high quality spiritual homeland for WHU alumni”, Yuan Tian, now a famous economist and also the President of the association said at the opening ceremony.

Zhiyong Hu, Vice President and Secretary of the association, believed that the alumni association in the Greater New York will serve as a platform for technological and cultural communication between China and the US, for joint entrepreneurship and for closer connections  with other alumni associations in this region.

Mr. Xuemeng Chen, Director of Office of International Affairs and Ms. Sainan Liu, Director of Alumni Association, WHU, both gave a speech at the meeting. They hope that Great New York Alumni Association will make significant contributions to promoting the connections among alumni overseas and enhancing the international influence and impact of WHU.

The WHU Alumni Association of Greater New York was registered as a non-profit social organization according to law of the United States. The organization structure remains open, which means those who have studied or worked at WHU can become members, while their spouse and children can also join in.
