“Upon its 123rd anniversary, Wuhan University is expected to carry forward its good traditions and hit a new high in the reform and innovation of higher education in this new era. This leads its way to a world class university with Chinese characteristics”, Liu Yandong, the vice-premier of the state council and member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, expressed her wishes and expectations during her second visit to Wuhan University.

At the dusk of October 14th, Liu Yandong arrived at Wuhan University accompanied by the Minister of Education, Chen Baosheng, and some other provincial and state-level leading cadres. Secretary of the WHU Party committee, Han Jin, and President Li Xiaohong welcomed them warmly and guided them to the Innovation and Entrepreneurial Practice Center, a public platform for students’ scientific research, innovation, discipline competition and training programs in addition to other activities.
Liu Yandong visited each exhibition booth with great interest and had cordial talks with the students. Here, Liu was deeply impressed by the enthusiastic atmosphere and the students’ scientific achievements of practical value.

“I would like to label Wuhan University with three “most” and one “unique”, President Li Xiaohong introduced to Liu Yandong and other leading cadres proudly, “this is a prestigious university with most profound history, most beautiful scenery, most comprehensive disciplines and a unique ideal towards the cultivation of talent”. President Li further explained this cultivation ideal and specific methods.
At the end of this visit, Liu Yandong delivered a speech, “seven years ago, my first visit to Wuhan University left a deep impression on me. Today, after my visit here, the success of innovation and entrepreneurial education has, once again, struck a cord with me.” Liu emphasized the significance of education in talent cultivation and the nation’s rejuvenation. She also pointed out that more efforts should be made to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurial education. At last, Liu congratulated the students on their achievements and showed her expectations for their endeavor and success in the future.
