WHUers wins the gold medal in the second annual Chinese college students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

Wuhan successfully hosted the 2016 national finals for the second annual Chinese college students’ “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition from October 13th to 15th.  Wuhan University was conferred the honor of “advanced collectivity” with all five teams awarded a total of 1 gold medal, 1 silver medals and 3 bronze medals respectively. 

The gold medal winner was “Reappearance of Phantom-Cloud Service Platform of Picture Enhancer based on Mobile Terminal” instructed by Hu Ruimin, Han Zhen, Zhang Luyin from the School of Computer Science at Wuhan University.  They were awarded “Excellent Instructors” for their devotion in this competition. The silver medal went to “Goodscan– Intelligent Measurement System of Bulk Cargo” from the School of Geodesy and Geomatics. The three bronze medal recipients were teams from State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing, the School of Computer Science and the School of Electronic Information.  

On October 14th, Liu Yandong, vice primer of State Council and member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended this competition. She warmly greeted prize winners, instructors, judges and experts of the competition committee, and took group pictures with them. This year, much publicity on this competition in WHU has attracted more than 120 teams from over 30 schools and faculties, an increase of 55.8% over that of last year.  These five teams stood out from all the other rivals with their painstaking effort and excellent performance, and eventually edged into the finals and got good results.  

The “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was proposed and directed by Li Keqian, premier of State Council. The competition for this year, themed “Realize the Dream of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Internet Plus Era”, is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Cyberspace Administration, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, State Intellectual Property Office, Chinese Academy of Science, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chinese Communist Youth League, and Hubei Provincial People’s Government, and is undertook by Huazhong University of Science and Technology.  

The competition attracted more college participants than last year, and 81% of Chinese universities have taken part in it, with 118804 teams and 545808 students directly involved, 3.3 and 2.7 times respectively the number from last year.
