Enjoy Reading Club was established on April 23rd, 2003, the World Book Day, and was sponsored by some undergraduates students with Editing & Publishing major from the School of Information management, Wuhan University. It became an official university club in 2010, and has positively cooperated with other associations and societis at Wuhan City, the Hubei Publicity Committee and Hubei People’s Press.
With the slogan “reading for the enjoyment of the heart and life”, the Club is aimed at stimulating reading interest, creating a reading atmosphere, building a communication platform and realizing a new realm for literary creation. Since the club was founded, its unique cultural atmosphere has attracted many students who share the love of books and culture.Mirror Pond is a magazine founded by the club and is published every year.
The reading club used to comprise 7 departments. After restructuring, it now consists of 5, including the Activity Department, the Editorial Department, the Propaganda Department, the Human Resource Department and the Liaison Department. Each department got divided into several teams, specifically responsible for certain duties. Besides, a new team “WeChat Operation Group” was founded to specifically take the responsibility of the daily WeChat updates (why not try search for “enjoyreading423” if you are a WeChat user). Different content, such as serial novels, essays, food and so on, are mostly original.
Enjoy Reading Club now has established two main brand activities. One is the Luojia Reading Square, in cooperation with Wuhan University Library. The Reading Square is held every two weeks, on Saturday evenings. Normally, we invite a student, and choose a book or a certain theme to do a two-way exchange communication project. The most active participant will then get a book sponsored by the library. We also hold a large lecture, together with other associations.
The other brand activity is called “Luoying Forum”. So far, we have successfully invited Huang Xiaoyang, Ma Boyong, Yi Shu and so on, writers loved by teachers and students. Besides, we also pay great attention to the communication with other clubs. For example, we took part in a directional event cross-country with other 6 clubs, greatly promoting the emotional communication between the clubs. What’s more, keeping a long-term friendly relationship with communities and devoting to volunteering work is also part of our additional activities.
Enjoy Reading Club is in a way, different from many other clubs, maintaining its own ideas and features, hopes to contribute to the cultural rise a unique flag in the generic cultural university.
