Rongti Chen: Distinguished Alumni of Wuhan University

 

 

Rongti Chen was born on November 11th,1919 in Dianjiang County, Sichuan Province. Now being a professor in the Chemistry Department of Nankai University, he is an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences at the same time. He used to be the deputy director of the NPC Standing Committee in Tianjin, and the committee chair of China Zhigong Party in Tianjin. He was also a member of The seventh session of the CPPCC National Committee and a member of the Standing Committee of the eighth CPPCC National Committee.

 

Rongti Chen did his master degree in 1944 two years after he had entered Wuhan University. He was selected as a student on government funds heading for the U.S. the same year he graduated. In 1952 he was already a Ph.D. Then he conducted his post-doctoral research between 1952 and 1953. From 1953 to 1954, he was a research scientist working for the United States Atomic Energy Commission at the Institute of Cryogenics, Chicago University.
