School of Power and Mechanical Engineering of Wuhan University is based on the subject clots of Energy and Power Engineering. It is an important institute for the energy and power engineering talents training and relevant scientific research.
There are 7 undergraduate majors: three first-level doctorate-accredited fields; four first-level master-accredited fields and three second-level master-accredited fields; four engineering master-accredited fields and professional master-accredited fields in engineering management; and postdoctoral station for Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics.
Mechanical Engineering is a provincial first-level key major, and Fluid Machinery and Engineering is provincial second-level key major. Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology is the 7th batch of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance’s project construction field for university’s specialty majors and provincial university’s strategic emerging industry personnel training plan. Our school has one National Engineering Practical Education Center for Advanced Power Generation Technology; two Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers for Mechanical Engineering and Comprehensive Engineering Training, respectively, and three provincial and ministerial level key laboratories.
There are 147 full-time faculty members, including 45 professors, 61 associate professors. The school has two Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (including one double-hired), one recipient of National Natural Science Foundation for Outstanding Youth Scholars, one chief scientist for 973 Project, three recipients for "one thousand talent program", one recipient for the Ministry of Education New Century Innovative Talent. There are more than 2700 students in the school, including more than 100 PhD candidates and more than 800 master degree candidates.
In recent five years, the school has been authorized more than 150 national patents, and obtained more than 20 awards which are provincial or higher level for science and technology. More than 1000 research programs are from National 973 projects, 863 projects, National Natural Science Foundation, National Science and Technology Support Plan and so on, and more than 1500 academic papers have been published in the core journals, in which more than 500 papers have been entered in the three international indexes online.
The school focuses the education of "Creation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship". In recent years, students have actively participated in the national science and technology competitions and have made great achievements, such as obtained gold medals in the "Challenge Cup" Chinese College Students Business Plan Competition, the National College Students' Smart Car Competition, the National College Social Practice for Energy Conservation and Emissions Reduction Competition, the National College Mechanical Innovation Design Competition, the National College Students Robot Contest, the National College Mathematical Modeling Competition and so on.
The school has extensive cooperations and communications with universities and research institutes from nearly 20 countries, like United States, Japan, France, Germany etc.. The school also has good cooperative relations with China's five major power generation groups, CGNPC Group, Guangdong Yudean Group, the Yangtze River Electric Power Group and China Minmetals, WISCO group, China Mechanical Science and Technology Research Institute, Chery Automobile Group, State Grid Corporation, Southern Power Grid Company and other enterprises.
