On May 18th, André Flahaut, president of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives paid a visit to Wuhan University(WHU). Han Jin, Chair of the Wuhan University’s Council and Executive President Feng Youmei received the delegation.

Han Jin introduced WHU’s teaching methodologies, research successes and development of talented scholars.  He further discussed the growing importance of Chinese education for Westerners, as China’s internationalization has deepened, more and more European youth have valued learning Chinese. Chairman Han also expressed WHU’s desire to increase cooperation with Belgian universities.

Flahaut said that Belgian government had a similar goal and encouraged universities to cooperate with WHU in student and faculty exchange programs as well as research collaboration. After the meeting, Flahaut met with students from the School of Foreign Languages and Literature and the School of Physics and Technology.

In recent years, WHU has intensified the collaboration with universities in French-speaking regions of Belgium by signing cooperation agreements with Wallonia, Institute Superieur de Traducteurs et Interpretes and Université libre de Bruxelles and undertaking various student exchange programs. WHU has also initialized a relationship with University de Liège and Université Catholique de Louvain which have sent delegations and professors to visit WHU to discuss modes of cooperation.
