At the 22nd International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Congress held on August 25th, Li Deren, a Wuhan University scholar and member of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), was awarded the title of Honorary Member — the ISPRS’s highest honor along with Professor Ian Dowman from University College London. This title has been awarded to only 10 distinguished scientists that have had the most influence in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing.

Li Deren is the second Chinese citizen to earn this title after CAS member Wang Zhizhuo in 1988 and also the only scientist who is both a Fellow and Honorary Member of ISPRS. Li has made significant contributions to the relevant theory, methodology, technology and industrial development of photogrammetry and remote sensing, helping guide its evolution as a distinct discipline.

The Congress of ISPRS is held every four years and this year was held in Melbourne, Australia with more than 1500 people from the academic community and industries around the world in attendance.
