WHU Scholars Selected As Outstanding Youth in Science and Technology

Tan Zhijie, a Professor in Wuhan University’s School of Physics and Technology, and Shen Yin, an Associate Researcher of Ophthalmology in the First School Research Center of Clinical Medicine at Wuhan University’s Renmin Hospital , have won the Outstanding Youth in Science and Technology in Hubei Province award. The award was jointly given by the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee’s Organization Department, the Hubei Province Department of Human Resources and Social Security and the Hubei Science and Technology Association. Twenty talented youth in the province won the honor this year.

Tan Zhijie, a specialist in soft matter physics and biophysics, has made advancements in the theoretical study of DNA electrospinning and soft matter condensing. He has been a project leader or primary researcher for more than 10 key research projects granted by the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and has published more than 40 essays in various international journals.

Shen Yin’s research focuses on biomedicine, and he has made novel discoveries in studying the signal transduction system in the retina. He is the first scientist in the world to identify the major factor for congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB) – TRPM1 Forms Ion Channel. In 2011, he was selected as a prestigious Wuhan University Luojia Youth Scholar.

The Outstanding Youth in Science and Technology Award has been held biannually since 1994, aiming to reward those who have made contributions to the economic, social and scientific & technological progress in Hubei.
