Fruitful Achievement Gained in Humanities and Social Sciences for WHU

On January 23rd, the annual meeting summarizing WHU’s achievement in Humanities and Social Sciences for the year 2014 was held by WHU.

The meeting concluded that in 2014, WHU has raised its level in the study of humanities and social sciences , making great progress in the academic team building, research base construction, project output, social services, and the international influence. The “Sovereignty and Maritime Rights and Interests  Collaborative Innovation Center" was granted national  recognition; the increase of papers published in the high level international journals remained stable with 210 SSCI and A&HCI published in 2014; the think tank construction attained remarkable results with a total of 426 advisory reports adopted d by all levels of government departmemts; the research fund in liberal art reached 165 million yuan.

The meeting also acknowledged the colleges and institutions that made outstanding achievements in 2014 in terms of research on Humanities and Social Science, along with the first “Post-70s” academic team. Ocean Research Institute,  School of Philosophy, School of Information Management, School of the Marxism and the Research Institute of International Law were awarded for their accomplishments. The research teams for the “Nation and Grassroots Society since the Late Imperial China Dynasty”, “The Chinese Brand Globalization Strategy”, “The Ancient Social Vicissitude in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River”, “Information Retrieval Methods and Techniques” and “Digital Communication and Modern Scientific Chinese Marxist Political Philosophy” research projects and the teams working on them, won the "Post-70s" outstanding academic teams of the year. 

WHU President Li Xiaohong pointed out that the research development in Humanities and Social Sciences are the cornerstone for Wuhan University ; they are also the core  competitiveness for building WHU into a first-class university with Chinese characteristic. He also emphasized that although the humanities and social sciences weigh less on the current international evaluation index, there is no reason to forsake this important  characteristic of Wuhan University . He suggested that we should increase the international exchanges in the field of humanities and social sciences, making the name of WHU known to the world.
