Wuhan University breaks into the top 50 and ranks 44th in the 2016 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Ranking: Asia published on 14th June, 14 places up compared with that of last year. WHU becomes the No. 9 among all the universities in the Chinese mainland. This year, there are 26 Chinese universities edging into the Top 100 of QS University Ranking: Asia.

Wuhan University has made constant efforts and remarkable progress in the past five years in terms of its ranking from 111th in 2011 to 100th in 2012. It has edged into top 50 in Asia and top 9 in Chinese mainland within five years.
From the data, it illustrates the ranking of Wuhan University throughout these years. It started from 111th in Asia and 17th in Chinese mainland in 2011 to 79th in Asia and 14th in Chinese mainland in 2012, then 70th and 12th in 2013, 63th and 12th in 2014, 58th and 11th in 2015 and finally 44th and 9th in 2016.
There are 350 universities in the ranking with 50 more compared to those of last year’s QS Asian Universities Ranking. This year there are 124 universities in China listed on the ranking, among which there are 82 universities in Chinese mainland, 7 in Hong Kong, 34 in Taiwan and 1 in Macau. 10 universities rank among the top 50 in Chinese mainland are as follows: including Tsinghua University (5th), Peking University (9th), Fudan University (11th), Shanghai Jiaotong University (22nd), Nanjing University (23rd), Zhejiang University (24th), University of Science and Technology of China (25th), Beijing Normal University (40th), Wuhan University (44th)and Zhongshan University (47th).
It is known that QS ranking system uses academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, papers citation, internationalization and academic influence as indicators. This year, QS added the number of staff with PhD degree and teaching quality as their new measurements.
