The 2017 Chinese Society of World Economics Conference with the theme of globalization changes and the new challenges of opening to the outside world (openness), was held successfully at the School of Economics and Management in WHU on last October. Scholars, professors, experts and students majoring in world economics from dozens of colleges and scientific research institutions attended this conference. The 2017 annual conference was held jointly by the Chinese Society of World Economics, School of Economics and Management (SEM) of WHU and the journal World Economics, World Economics Review.

The exciting conference featured 5 keynote speeches, 3 separate sessions, 8 sub-forums and more than 100 contributed sessions.
Professor Zhang Bin chaired the opening ceremony, and the assistant dean of SEM Wang Tao gave a welcome speech, conveying his appreciation to the audience and giving a brief introduction of the history and discipline construction status of the school. He pointed out that the conference would mainly discuss the significant theoretical and practical problems under the background of a changing global economic environment.

After the opening ceremony, the conference began on the morning of the 21st . 5 keynote speeches were given by distinguished scholars such as Professor Yao Zhizhong, the deputy director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Guan Tao from Wuhan University, Professor Tong Jiadong from Nankai University, and Professor Ju Jiandong from Tsinghua University. They expressed their ideas on various topics about world economics.
Professor Yao Zhidong shared his understanding and expectations on the global economy, and Professor Guan Tao discussed how the US Federal Reserve would influence China’s economy. Professor Tong Jiadong concentrated on the Belt and Road initiatives’ policies and geo-economics, while Professor Ju Jiandong applied a dynamic structure analysis approach to study international trade.

In the afternoon, scholars had further discussion in sub-forums on issues such as international financial problems, the construction of the Belt and Road initiatives, and global value chains.
The closing ceremony of the 2017 Chinese Society of World Economics Conference was participated by representatives from the 8 sub-forums and experts from different colleges. The ceremony was chaired by Shao Binghong, the secretary of the Chinese Society of World Economics Conference, who delivered a brief summary of the two day’s agenda, expressed his appreciation towards all the participants and hailed the fruitful discussion of the conference.
