Strategy of Reinvigorating China through Culture in the New Era: the 2nd Luojia Think Tank Forum held in WHU

On October 21st, 2018, the 2nd Luojia Think Tank Forum was co-held by Wuhan University and Guang Ming Daily at the old library of Wuhan University. More than 20 experts from academic, politic and industrial circles exchanged their observation on “Strategy of Reinvigorating China through Culture in the New Era.” This fruitful forum gives vivid expression to the widely acknowledged role of Luojia Think Tank in theoretical innovation, consultation, public diplomacy and social services since 2017.

Opening speeches by Shen Zhuanghai, Lu Xian’gao, Yu Liping

The opening ceremony was presided by Wang Peigang, Dean of Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences of Wuhan University. Shen Zhuanghai, Vice-Chair of the University Council, Lu Xian’gao, Deputy Chief Editor of Guang Ming Daily and Yu Liping, Deputy Minister of Hubei Provincial Publicity Department all attended the forum and delivered speeches. They spoke highly of Luojia Think Tank and its series for promoting economic and social development and cultural construction. They also expected Wuhan University to give full play to its humanity upper hand and to promote the construction of Luojia Think Tank.

The forum comprises keynote speeches and round-table conferences. The keynote in the morning was hosted by Zhao Shiju, Director of the National Institute of Chinese Language Matters and Social Development of Wuhan University. Six distinguished experts shared their ideas on Strategy of Reinvigorating China through Culture in the New Era from perspectives of their own studies and research fields. They are: Sun Zhengyu, Senior Professor of Philosophy and Social Sciences from Jilin University; Feng Tianyu, Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences from Wuhan University; Zhong Chengxiang, Dean of the School of the Cinematic Arts of Communication University of China; Lei Wenjie, Director of Hubei Provincial Department of Culture; Liu Xinglong, Chairman of Hubei Provincial Association of Arts and Literature; Luo Yuting, Professor of the School of Marxism of Wuhan University.

Round-table Dialogue by Fu Caiwu, Han Yongjin, Liu Shuguang, Qi shuyu and Yang Hua

There were two Round-table Dialogues in the afternoon. The first was hosted by Fu Caiwu, Dean of National Institute of Cultural Development in Wuhan University. Experts had a discussion on Cultural Development and Cultural Policy.

The second Dialogue was hosted by Shan Bo, Director of Center for Studies of Media Development of Wuhan University. Distinguished guests exchanged their views on Cultural Communication and National Image.

The past year has seen the further development of Luojia Think Tank featuring Hubei-rooted and China-focused with a global outlook. Its scholars have taken active participation in safeguarding rights in Diaoyu Islands and the South China Sea. They have provided a great number of consultation reports on promoting major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and the mechanism of settling international disputes of The Belt and Road Initiative and so on. Great contributions have been made to the planning of local economic and social development strategy by proposing a series of suggestions such as initiating the “Golden Ten-Year” of Hubei development and constructing the upgraded version of Yangtze River Economic Belt and so on. Experts from Wuhan University will play a greater role by constructing Luojia Think Tank and applying Marxism theories, philosophy, history, literature, journalism sciences and other disciplines.
