On June 23, Wuhan University (WHU) successfully signed an agreement with Dongfeng Motor Corporation, to build five joint laboratories as venues for collaborative research. Responding to the enormous demand for intelligent vehicle development, both sides aim to explore the new combination of industry, education and research, while collaborating on scientific research, innovation transfer and university-enterprise cooperation.
Dou Xiankang, president of WHU, Wu Ping、Li Jiancheng, both vice presidents of WHU, and Liu Jingnan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the signing ceremony. Zhu Yanfeng, president and party secretary of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, was also present.
Dou Xiankang and Zhu Yanfeng inaugurated these five joint laboratories. They are Joint Labs for Mobility, Hadoop AI, Innovative Electric Drive, New Generation Electronics & Electronics Architecture, and Sharing-X Mobile Technology Service Platform.
On behalf of WHU and Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Li Jiancheng and You Zheng, respectively, signed the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement. The Research Institute of Science and Technology Development of WHU signed the laboratory construction agreement and the automatic driving high-precision map positioning project agreement with Zhilin Technology, Dongfeng Smooth Travel and the Company’s Technology Center, all of which are part of Dongfeng Motor Corporation.
These laboratories bring together the strength of WHU and Dongfeng Motor Corporation in scientific research on intelligent vehicles, and it is anticipated that this development will boost resource sharing between industry, education and research.. In the future, joint efforts will be made to crack the core technical problems, to accelerate the application of scientific and technological achievements and to establish a new system of joint talent development.
Dou Xiankang pointed out that since the reform and opening up, Dongfeng Motor Corporation has been a benchmarking enterprise in the automotive industry. The core technologies mastered by the company undergo continuous innovation and development. In recent years, the team of outstanding young talents in WHU has been constantly expanded, and the scientific research capacity has been gradually enhanced. The strategic cooperation between Wuhan University and Dongfeng Motor Corporation opens a door for the collaborative development between university and enterprise. He hoped that both sides would grasp this opportunity to continuously improve the research and innovation capability. It is expected that both sides will further consolidate the foundation for cooperation and expand the cooperative project.
