In a recent interview with People's Daily, Zhang Pingwen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Wuhan University, stressed the importance of cultivating first-class innovative talents in the navigation sector to promote high-quality development of the Beidou navigation industry. Zhang pointed out that the triple concept of education, science and technology and human resources, proposed in the report of the 20^th CPC National Congress, has provided clear guidance for the development of China's education, science and technology and talent cultivation in the new era. Colleges and universities are important hubs for the integration of science and technology, talents and innovation, and Zhang pointed out that we should follow the strategic needs of the country and continue to develop talents for China.

Positioning, navigation and timing systems (PNT) are strategic resources and a high point of great power competition. The 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035[1] , clearly state that major projects will be implemented to promote high-quality development of the Beidou navigation industry. The research and development of an integrated PNT system must be independent. Talent is the key to developing the Beidou navigation industry. We will adjust the talent structure and cultivate a high-level team of interdisciplinary talents. We will improve the scale and quality of the talent training system to enhance international competitiveness. We will build innovation centers for relevant disciplines and create a high ground for innovation. We will implement a more active, open and effective talent policy and create a favorable environment for the recruitment, training and utilization of talents, and provide intellectual support to overcome bottlenecks.

Wuhan University will thoroughly study, understand and implement the spirit of the 20^th CPC National Congress, and strive to promote the high-quality development of disciplines, with education as the foundation, team building as the core, national strategies as the guidance, and systematic operation as the driving force. On the one hand, Wuhan University will focus on basic disciplines, fully respecting the opinions of scientists and paying attention to original innovation. We will encourage curiosity-driven research, strengthen the forward-looking, strategic and systematic layout of basic research, summarize key issues in basic scientific research, and build our brands with international influence. On the other hand, we should follow national strategies and grasp the trend of scientific and technological development by organizing scientific research that serves major national projects. Through various means, such as cooperation with enterprises, Wuhan University will create new disciplinary advantages that respond to major national strategic needs and major needs of regional economic and social development
