Robocon adopts a similar knockout system as football games. After three rounds of fierce competition, WHU team has won 8 games successively, becoming the only team that obtained the complete victory. As for the comprehensive performance, WHU ranked the fifth among over 60 university teams,

The robot team of WHU comprises of 29 undergraduate students majoring in Machine Design, Energy and Power Engineering, Material Forming, Automation, Measurement -control Technology and Optoelectricity from School of Power and Mechanical Engineering and School of Electronic Information. The team is led by Prof. Wang Guoshun, Chen Jianxiang and Wang Wei. Prof. Wang Guoshun was awarded as the Best Guide Teacher.

The theme of this year’s Robocon is clean energy. The competition requires two robots to work in collaboration--one with autonomous movement and one without power support, in order to accomplish the transportation and installment of fan blades of a windmill generator. The robot of WHU team applied the multi-subject knowledge and technology of mechanical layout, automatic control, optoelectronic sensing and ultrasound, machine vision. The robots they made have compact structures, accurate positioning performance, strong electromagnetic compatibility, quick response and ability to single target follow-up. That’s why their robots stand out among numerous works.

In previous Robocons, Wuhan University has missed the top eight for several times due to various factors. Instead of giving up, WHU robot team devoted even more effort into this competition. In order to make thorough preparation, the team members had started their training since last July. After countless sleepless nights and thousands of times of associated debugging, they finally achieved this great success. “Exploring and surmounting ourselves is full of charm. Achievements belong to the past, the future is still challenging. The Robot Team of WHU will step further on the way of technological innovation.” Said Mei Quanjie, the team leader. One of the guide teachers, Prof. Wang Guoshun said: “During the tough fight, I’m deeply touched by the solidarity, diligence, tenacity and concentration of our team members. Thanks to the help and encouragement of leaders from Department of Undergraduate Education and School of Power and Mechanical Engineering, especially from Dean Zhang Shaodong , Vice Dean Zhao Jushan and Shi Duanwei, we finally made it.”

Robocon is one of the major subject contests that WHU takes part in. Each year, WHU provides considerable support to this competition including large annual investment, establishments of laboratories, training fields and policies support. Through this competition, WHU aims to arouse students’ interests in high technology, and to foster future elites of science. The university has also been trying to build up platform for starting businesses and innovation over these years. Robocon is an excellent representative of innovation, and WHU team will make persistent efforts to obtain greater achievements.
