The 2017 China Meeting of the Econometric Society Held at WHU

On June 9-11, the 2017 China Meeting of the Econometric Society was held successfully at the Economics and Management School of Wuhan University. The exciting 3-day conference featured 6 keynote speeches, 12 invited lectures, 50 organized sessions and more than 90 contributed sessions. Over 400 paper presenters from all over the world gathered at the meeting, exchanging ideas in topics such as panel data econometrics, monetary policy, asset bubbles, financial crisis, economic growth and development, matching theory, game theory, labor economics, energy, sustainability, and green innovation. The six keynote speeches were given by distinguished scholars such as Jonathan Eaton from Pennsylvania State University, Faruk Gul from Princeton University, Soo Hong Chew from National University of Singapore, Cheng Hsiao from University of Southern California, Elie Tamer from Harvard University, and Justin Y-F Lin from Beijing University.

The School Dean, Xie Danyang , chaired the opening session and the University Vice President LI Fei gave a welcoming remark. He extended his appreciation to the audience and wished this great platform could contribute to scientific economic research and promote international collaboration.

Keynote speakers

 “The Econometric Society is the most prestigious learned society in the field of Economics, with a world-wide membership. Its main object is to promote studies that aim at a unification of the theoretical-quantitative and empirical-quantitative approach to economic problems and that are penetrated by constructive and rigorous thinking similar to that which has come to dominate in the natural sciences” (Robert Gordon, Econometrica 1997). It publishes journals such as Econometrica, Quantitative Economics, and Theoretical Economics. It sponsored scientific meetings in six regions of the world.

Selected Invited Lectures

 The Economics and Management School of Wuhan University, founded in 1893, is the largest of its kind in China, with about 300 faculty members and more than 10,000 students. Over the years, it has built a reputation of being one of the most influential and competitive business schools in China. It has been accredited by EQUIS and AMBA.
