The workshop on Structural Chemistry Teaching, organized by the Higher Education Chemistry Teaching Center in the Ministry of Education, and co-organized by the College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences in Wuhan University, was successfully held on December 17th-18th. More than 30 representative professors and teachers attended the workshop. They were from more than ten universities including Beijing University, University of Science and Technology of China, Xiamen University and so on.
The opening ceremony was host by the national outstanding teacher Gongzheng Cheng, the deputy dean of the College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences of Wuhan University. Prof. Xiang Zhou, the Dean, gave a welcome speech on the opening ceremony and at the same time introduced our college undergraduate teaching reform situation especially in Structural Chemistry, in the hope of advancing the teaching research of the course Structural Chemistry and promoting the communications on undergraduate teaching among universities. Yun Lian, the director of the Higher Education Chemistry Teaching Center in the Ministry of Education and national outstanding teacher from Beijing University, also gave a speech in the opening ceremony. He firstly showed his gratitude to Wuhan University for its contribution in organizing the workshop, and then briefly introduced the agenda and schedule of the session.
The workshop enhanced deep communication around the topics in undergraduate teaching such as Molecular Structure, Molecular Concept, Molecular Orbital and Chemical Bond. Professors attending the workshop also had a discussion around issues about the overlapping materials between the Structural Chemistry and Organic and Inorganic Courses, and how to adjudge the material and teaching hours in Structural Science. All representatives discussed warmly during the whole workshop. They not only reached an agreement on issues around the Molecular Structure, Molecular Concept, Molecular Orbital and Chemical Bond, but also shared their successful teaching experience as well as their opinions towards the development of Structural Science with others. The workshop ended successfully in these warmly discussions.
This workshop further clarified the undergraduate teaching framework of Structural Science, and pointed the focus in this course as well as its important role in undergraduate teaching, which shows significant meaning in our country’s teaching innovation in Structural Science.
