In order to enhance the academic communication among doctors, widen their academic horizons, inspire their creative thoughts and contribute to the interdisciplinary integration, College of Chemistry and Molecular Science of Wuhan University held the first Frontier Forum of Doctors on November 4th and 5th.
This forum was mainly composed of four parts, reports of invited experts, reports of graduate student representatives, academic salon and poster exhibition. There were 2 experts’ reports, 10 representative’s reports, 35 student’s reports and more than 50 poster exhibitions during the two days. Delegation to the conference were from Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences(Wuhan), Huazhong Agricultural University and Central China Normal University.
The opening ceremony began at 9 a.m. prof. Xiang Zhou, dean of College of Chemistry and Molecular Science and prof. Wei Zhou, director of Training Department of the Graduate College of Wuhan University successively delivered speeches for this forum.
Soon afterwards, Maili Liu, director of Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics (WIPM) of Chinese Academy of Science and prof. Weihong Tan, academician of Chinese Academy of Science, vice president of Hunan University gave brilliant special reports in succession.
On the afternoon of 4th, excellent doctors from different schools reported items related to the hot research fields. Student representatives made reports via PPT presentation, expert comments, audience questions and free discussions, which promoted collision of thoughts and academic communications between students and teachers. The reports covered electrochemistry, material, energy sources, bio-medicine and some other hot research fields, which intended to bring new ideas and thoughts to teachers and students through speeches.
What’s more, the forum also had salon, which was divided into 3 parallel sessions —synthetic chemistry, advanced material science and biomedicine according to the number and research directions of the attended students. Delegations to the conference discussed in groups on morning of 5th.
Additionally, the forum also laid emphasis specially on poster exhibition. Every student representative made a poster showing his/her own representative academic results published or not. Through visualized images and charts as well as concise illustrations, participants with interest could know the author’s research findings and conclusions as quickly as possible. And they could even talk to the author face to face in front of the posters.
After the two-day academic communication, the first Frontier Forum of Doctors of College of Chemistry and Molecular Science of Wuhan University came to a successful conclusion. Secretary of the Party Committee of the college Changning Lu, vice secretary Yi Wu and vice dean Bin Hu attended the closing ceremony. Lu delivered the closing keynote address on behalf of the college. He fully affirmed the forum and encouraged every student representative to work hard and pay more attention to research innovation. Then leaders of the college presented the prizes to the excellent student representatives respectively and took photos with them.
On the academic exchange and theoretical innovation platform built up by this forum, student representatives facilitated understanding of their research realms through the collision of thoughts and free discussions. They will focus more on creative practice and interdisciplinary communication, devote themselves to science research and spare no efforts to contribute their strength to the development of chemistry!
