On September 4, the Huawei 2017 graduate recruitment, themed “Run the world”, was held in the Greenwoods lecture Hall at the Economic and Management School which was attended by Huawei executives, university officials and an overwhelmingly large cohort of students. It was one of the first events to be held this term and was well-received by the students. It was a student-centric event in a media-rich interactive environment featuring an immersive array of Huawei’s latest gadgets. Not only the students with engineering discipline but those students who majored in economics and marketing attended the event with great zeal and enthusiasm. The event opened up with a musical performance followed by a mentoring and recruitment session.

Huawei’s human resources Vice-President Zhao Yong, in his keynote speech, welcomed all the aspiring and purpose-driven students willing to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment to join Huawei with open arms. He also inspired the students when he talked about the early days of his engineering career.

Huawei has always been at the forefront of the ICT industry with its innovative products and unique service model, but most importantly, it has been a brand close to the heart of the youth. Over the years, thousands of WHU graduates have been employed at Huawei and it has always valued their contributions and has rewarded them accordingly.

The growing ICT industry has created a demand for jobs anchored to fundamental engineering but the current job market requires the graduates to possess interdisciplinary knowledge, particularly some business knowledge in addition to their domain. They have to be able to straddle both the technology and business spheres with ease.

Nowadays, many new emerging companies have been the wellspring of jobs for the graduates. The aspirations of the young students have also changed phenomenally and they no longer worry about high salary and cutoffs. They want to explore new challenges and opportunities in an open atmosphere and develop the right mindset to be future ready. They are more adaptive to change and are willing to take risks. The job industry is being increasingly receptive of young talents and every year the companies launch big recruitment drives to hire the best employees that can provide impetus to their growth.

But what sets this event apart from other career fairs is the insightful analytics provided to the students, helping them identify career paths in this era of digital transformation. Huawei’s dream of building a better connected world together can only be achieved by effectively channeling the ambition and talent of these students, many of whom could be their prospective employees. Huawei had collaborated with WHU in many substantial outreach efforts to identify talented students in the past too. Such events are unique, convenient and cost-effective alternatives to actual career fairs and can serve as a bridge between companies and talented students.
