On February 19th, a national “973 project”— “Efficient Development Foundation of Enhancing Shale Gas by Supercritical Carbon Dioxide” was launched. President Li Xiaohong, a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, will act as the chief scientist in this project.
Shale gas refers to natural gas that is trapped within shale formations and can be rich sources natural gas. The application of supercritical carbon dioxide in enhancing shale gas is an internationally cutting edge topic. The theoretical and technological research in this project will provide strong support to the development of shale gas and large-scale reduction of carbon dioxide in China.
To carry out this project, Wuhan University will play a leading role while cooperating with 4 other universities and 7 enterprises and organizations such as CNPC, SINOPEC and Chinese Academy of Sciences.
