The 2020 annual conference of the Standing Committee on Antarctic Geographic Information (SCAGI) was held recently. Professor Li Fei, the vice president of Wuhan University and director of Chinese Antarctic Surveying and Mapping Research Center, was elected as the new co-chairman. He will collaborate with Paul Morin, the representative from the USA, on the communication and cooperation of SCAGI in the upcoming four years.

Representatives from 13 countries, including China, the United States, The United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Norway, Italy, South Korea, Spain, Bulgaria, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, attended the video conference. Participants made reports on the progress of each country’s work on geographic information in Antarctica, as well as discussing in particular the international rules and procedures for the geographical naming in Antarctic.
As the professional subordinate organization of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), the SCAGI is responsible for the data exchange, product release, regulation and coordination of geographical information related to Antarctic maps, geographical names and so on. The products it published and maintained include Antarctic Digital Database(ADD), Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica(CGA) and Reference Elevation Model of Antarctica(REMA).
