On March 5th, 2019 Wuhan University Conference on International Exchange and Cooperation was held. Li Fei, Vice President of the university, along with directors of schools, departments, research institutes and functional departments attended the conference.

Li Fei summarized concept and tasks of three phases in WHU’s international exchange and cooperation from 2015 to 2018 and illustrated development status of internationalization at this stage. Up to now, much progress has been made in the international influence, internationalization awareness at both university and college levels, the scale of foreign faculty and depth of international scientific collaborations.

As is pointed out by Li Fei, through investigations conducted in 35 schools of WHU in 2018, issues concerning credit transfer, rigid scholarship funding and unsatisfactory treatment to foreign experts have been addressed. However, problems such as insufficiency of mechanism, lack of resources and deficiency of capacity still remain. In 2019, under the guiding ideology of “improving quality and efficiency”, Wuhan University will take steps to level up the international exchange standards, scale up overseas study at the undergraduate level, deepen international scientific cooperation, optimize the indicator system of academic development and cultivate students to a more international level.

Deputy Dean of School of Philosophy, Li Yong and vice-chairman of International Cooperation Committee of Electronic Information School, Ni Binbin respectively shared their experience derived from introducing foreign experts, organizing International Summer School and cooperating with worldwide renowned universities. They concluded expecting that the university give further policy and financial support in building “International Model Institutes”, as well as providing more opportunities for teachers and students to study abroad.

Later, directors of Office of International Affairs presented WHU’s work performances in international exchange in 2018, as well as cooperative projects with universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. They also replied to inquiries about foreign experts’ applications. The chief executive of School of International Education then introduced good performance made by international students at Wuhan University.

In the year of 2019, centering on “Double First-Class” initiative, in the aim to promote WHU’s development, Office of International Affairs will focus on enhancing services, upgrading international cooperation standards, sending more undergraduates studying abroad, substantially cultivating talents and developing scientific cooperation, meanwhile, strengthening institutional construction and improving the quality of English official website.
