At 7:00 p.m. on April 24, a sharing session entitled “Struggling Youth is most gorgeous: Where do the talented individuals go?” started in Wuhan University’s No. 5 teaching building lecture hall. With strong interest in the four instructors, who all are highly successful students, the large lecture hall was filled before the session began.

As the theme indicated, highly successful students were invited to give a lecture to students on the campus. Yet, the audience remained ignorant of who the instructors would be until the session began. When the four guests came onto the stage, their anonymity was removed.

Xie Xiao, a senior in the College of Chemistry, was honored as a hero of public service for initiating the Qingquan Project, which focused on researching and resolving water resources security, a particularly important issue in China. Besides that, Xie Xiao also took part in other public welfare programs, like Teach for China. Based on his own analysis, his college years were separated into four parts--- study, scientific research, public service and traveling. He was awarded a National Merit Scholarship twice and published an essay on a Science Citation Index Journal. He also managed to devote a lot of time to traveling. He was accepted for admission to Peking University for master degree, while managing to travel across all of China.

Li Bohan set a series of records in the School of Political Science and Public Administration. Most impressive academically, she had the highest GPA in her discipline for two consecutive years. Yet, she was not overly bookish. On the contrary, she played basketball and liked hurdling. Li Bohan also participated in numerous groups. She was the Student Union vice chairman and her school’s youth league deputy secretary. On top of that, she gained wide attention for getting married last year.

Xie Mengfei was dubbed a software master because as a student in the School of Computing for four years he created a batch of software including the popular Whuhand, Dxhand via Wechat application, facejoking.com and platforms. When asked "how do you view yourself", Mengfei stayed humble and replied “I am Xie Mengfei, just myself.”

Zou Yupeng, a postgraduate entrepreneur from the Economics and Management School, narrated how he was a gold winner of the National Entrepreneurship Competition, the director of a public welfare program “Magic Classrooms in Mountainous Regions,” a vice chairman of the Youth Development and Counseling Center, and the CEO and legal representative of the Wuhan Mengxianghuakai limited company, a carrier of cultural communication. He reiterated that his success was due to perseverance and encouraged audience members to preserve in their endeavors as well.

Although their successes cannot be copied, the purpose of the session was to give audience members a window into how other students had succeeded and enable them to obtain their own lofty goals.
