From May 21st to 31st, a WHU delegation, led by Li Jian, the Party Committee secretary for Wuhan University, paid a visit to the University of Hawaii, the California Institute of Technology and Stanford University in the United States, the University of Waterloo in Canada, and the University of Havana in Cuba and successfully held talks with them in order to further develop cooperative programs.
In the University of Hawaii, where the delegation was welcomed by its vice principal and five deans, the two sides recalled past cooperation between the two universities and expressed a desire for expanding the scope of collaborative areas and results.

At the California Institute of Technology, the delegation visited institutes such as the Jet Propulsion Research Center and the Geology and Planetary Sciences Laboratory and held a small gathering with about 20 Chinese students. In the meeting, Li Jian introduced the current social and economic conditions in China and the current status of WHU, while encouraging many students to come back to work at WHU.

At Stanford University, Li Jian held a dialogue with Stanford’s international liaisons on issues such as strengthening academic and scientific cooperation between the two universities. The delegation also paid a visit to the Asian Liver Center where they held a meeting with its director Dr. Samuel So and relevant researchers.

At the University of Havana, the delegation was welcomed by the vice principal and both sides expressed genuine wish for promoting professors and students exchange and extending collaborative areas. During the visit in Cuba, Zhang Tuo, the Chinese ambassador to Cuba met with the delegation and praised educational and scientific cooperation between WHU and relevant universities in Cuba.

At the University of Waterloo, after listening to an introduction about the university, Li Jian effused that University of Waterloo is one of WHU’s most important partners in Canada and wished that two universities could expand the cooperation to fields such as Chemistry, Biology and Food Security. The two sides later signed agreement on a cooperative 2+2 program in the area of Chemistry.
