Huang Taiyan invited to lead a delegation to Belarus

From 24 to 28 June, Huang Taiyan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan University (WHU), led a delegation to Belarus to participate in the ‘Forum of Presidents of High-level Universities in China and Belarus’. During the visit, Huang was scheduled to attend a meeting at the Belarusian State Polytechnic University, sign an agreement on inter-university cooperation, and call on the Embassy of the People' Republic of China in Belarus.

On the morning of June 25, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, convened with representatives from both countries at the Presidential Palace. Among the attendees were Andrei Ivanets, Minister of Education of Belarus, Chen Jie, Vice Minister of Education of China, Xie Xiaoyong, Ambassador of China to Belarus, and representatives of Chinese and Belarusian universities. Huang was invited to attend the meeting.

In the afternoon, the delegation paid a visit to the Belarusian State Polytechnic University, where the president, Igor Voitov, welcomed them warmly and expressed his hope that the university would be able to carry out student exchanges and mutual visits in the fields of construction materials, chemistry and so on. Huang proceeded to provide an overview of the fundamental characteristics of WHU, including the academic strengths and the teaching qualifications. He emphasized the crucial role of students and scholars in facilitating international exchanges and cooperation between universities. He also highlighted the importance of young students as a fundamental aspect of the friendship between the two countries and their future development. Finally, he expressed his hope that the two universities would expand their student exchange programs, strengthen personnel exchange visits, and make greater contributions to promoting people-to-people exchanges between China and Belarus.

Delegation visit to the Belarusian State Polytechnic University

On June 26, the Forum of Presidents of High-level Universities in China and Belarus’ was held in the National Library of Belarus. At the meeting, Huang Taiyan made a keynote speech on the topic of ‘Hand in Hand, Exchange and Mutual Learning, Building a Sino-Belarusian Community of Cooperation in Basic Sciences’, introducing the international cooperation of WHU in the field of basic sciences, summarizing the solid and rich experience of cooperation between the university and Russian-speaking countries, and proposing that the Chinese and Belarusian sides should further strengthen the sharing of resources, joint research, and interaction between young people, so as to build a Sino-Belarusian community of cooperation.

Huang delivered a speech at the Forum of Presidents of High-level Universities in China and Belarus’.

Huang asserted that basic science is a potent catalyst for propelling the human future and fostering social advancement. WHU is committed to leveraging its disciplinary strengths and collaborating with Belarusian universities and colleges to reinforce academic ties. This collaboration will prioritize addressing the demands of cutting-edge science and technology, facilitating exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, and ultimately, contributing to the realization of the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Belarus. During the agreement signing session, WHU entered into a memorandum of understanding on inter-university cooperation with the Belarusian State Polytechnic University.

In addition, during its stay in Belarus, the delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Belarus, where Huang introduced to the Ambassador the recent development of WHU, as well as an overview of exchanges with universities and institutions in Russian-speaking countries, such as Russia and Belarus, and at the same time put forward new development ideas for future exchanges and cooperation between WHU and Belarusian universities.

On September 2022, the presidents of China and Belarus announced the upgrading of the bilateral relations to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership. This was followed in March 2023 by a joint statement from the two countries on the further development of the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era. The two sides are committed to deepening comprehensive cooperation within the framework of the joint construction of the Belt and Road. As a significant outcome of the Forum, the participating universities launched the initiative of ‘China-Belarus Cooperation in Basic Sciences’ at the Forum’s opening ceremony. This represents a further step towards the deepening of educational cooperation between the two countries, following the establishment of the China-Belarus University Alliance. This initiative represents a further step in the deepening of educational cooperation between the two countries. Its objective is to facilitate high-level exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the field of higher education, to expand the channels of cooperation, to continue to deepen the exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and Belarusian universities, and to strengthen the civil society of both countries for the benefit of future generations.

Relevant persons in charge of the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the Office of International Affairs of WHU participated in the visit.
