Gong Wei


Gong Wei, male, Han nationality, and born in December 1970, earned a postgraduate degree and a doctoral degree, and is a member of the Jiu San Society. He is a current vice president of Wuhan University, supporting the president in development planning and discipline construction, and natural science research work. He is in charge of the Development Planning and Discipline Construction Office and the Science Technology and Development Research Institute (including the Advanced Technology Research Institute); he is the liaison for the School of Remote Sensing and Information Engineering, the School of Computer Science, the School of Cyber Science and Engineering, and the Institute of Frontier Interdisciplinary Research.

Vice President Gong Wei has long been devoted to the scientific research of optical remote sensing, and is mainly engaged in the teaching and research work in laser radar advanced technology and its scientific applications. He has successively presided over a number of national scientific research programs, such as the National Key Research and Development Programme, the Major Research Instrument Development Project of the National Natural Science Foundation, 973 research programs, 863 projects and so on. He has published more than 200 SCI papers, among which representative results of his research were published in international journals like Nature, RSE and ACP. He has been awarded the first prize for Technological Inventions in Hubei Province and the second prize for Technological Progress in Hubei Province.

He was selected, among others, as a special professor of the Ministry of Education’s Important Talents Plan and a pioneering talent of the National Special Support Plan for high-level talents. He has been awarded the titles of provincial labor model, government special allowance receipient of the State Council, and a Hubei Province excellent study abroad returnee. He has served as the leader of the Ministry of Education’s innovation team and the director of the Engineering Research Center of Carbon Neutrality Sensing and Efficiency Assessment of the Ministry of Education.

He was the deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing, head of the Electronic Information School and the director of the Development Planning and Discipline Construction Office of Wuhan University. In August 2023, he was appointed as a vice president of Wuhan University.

His main social positions are the chairman of the Wuhan Laser Society, a standing committee member of the Political Consultative Conference of Hubei Province, a member of the Science and Technology Committee of the Central Committee of the Jiu San Society, and the director of the Hubei Provincial Educational and Cultural Committee of the Jiu San Society.
