
On the morning of June 23, the Wuhan University 2026 Global Summer School officially launched at the lecture hall of the Lei Jun Science and Technology Building. More than 500 faculty and students from over 40 countries and regions gathered at Luojia Hill to explore cutting-edge academic knowledge and advance mutual learning across diverse cultures.Xu Dongxing, Assistant to the President of Wuhan University, attended the opening ceremony.

Xu Dongxing introduced the educational history and international cooperation progress of Wuhan University. He expressed the hope that the Global Summer School, under the theme of "Gather Talents at Luojia, Inspire Youth Vitality", would organize rich and diverse activities to help global youth explore academic frontiers, gain insights into Chinese history, culture and contemporary development, and forge lasting cross-border friendships. Zhang Minrong, Chairman of the Board of United Investment Europe Co., Ltd., gave a brief introduction to the audience on the cooperation between CBTC China-Belgium Technology Center and the Global Summer School program.

Prof. Timo Balz from the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing of Wuhan University encouraged young students to break down national barriers and jointly address global scientific challenges. He noted that diverse, differentiated research perspectives are the most valuable academic asset of the Global Summer School.
Prof. Gao Zhi, Deputy Dean of the National Academy of Excellent Engineers of Wuhan University, affirmed the value of the Global Summer School as a youth exchange platform connecting Wuhan University with the world. On behalf of all faculty in charge of the program, he made a solemn commitment: to deliver personalized academic guidance tailored to students’ aptitudes; to respect cultural diversity and foster an equal, friendly exchange environment; and to provide thoughtful services and sound program support.

Zhang Xiya from the School of Nursing of Wuhan University shared her international exchange experience and how it broadened her horizons and enhanced cross-cultural understanding. On behalf of all volunteers, she pledged to ensure quality service and support, and looked forward to growing together with youth from all countries through mutual learning.
Tang Yifu, a member of the Wuhan University Dragon Boat Team, shared his experience of competing in the International Dragon Boat Race in Duisburg, Germany. He called on all participants to work together, support each other and make joint progress in academic seminars, research practices and cultural activities, and wished the friendship among global youth an enduring bond.

Since 2006, the Wuhan University Global Summer School has evolved through continuous iteration and innovation, building a high-quality youth exchange platform spanning five continents and integrating multiple disciplines. It has brought together nearly 3,000 young students, experts and scholars worldwide to date. Hosted by the Office of International Affairs of Wuhan University, this year’s program, themed "Gather Talents at Luojia, Inspire Youth Vitality", offers 20 tracks covering international geoinformatics, intelligent unmanned systems, Panlongcheng field archaeology, Sino-French medical internship, digital-intelligent community rehabilitation, and cultural heritage conservation, among others.
