On Aug 30, the Luojia Summer School on Fire and Structural Modeling concluded at the Old Library of Wuhan University. The week-long program, which began on Aug 24, brought together 40 students from Brazil, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Malaysia, Hong Kong SAR of China, and various regions across the Chinese mainland.

The summer school featured five days of intensive teaching from Monday to Friday, followed by the Workshop on Structural and Fire Modeling on Saturday and a Luojia Lecture on Sunday. The courses covered fundamental fire science, heat transfer, structural fire engineering, fire–structure coupling, GPU computing, and AI modeling, combining theoretical lectures with computational training and practical exercises. The teaching team consisted of eight instructors from the Centre Technique Industriel de la Construction Métallique (CTICM, France), the Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco (Italian National Fire and Rescue Service), The University of Manchester (UK), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Wuhan University.

A range of cultural and social activities, including a campus tour, a visit to the Hubei Provincial Museum, and a tour of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, were also organized to enrich the participants’ experience beyond the classroom. These activities offered international students opportunities to explore the history and culture of Wuhan and Hubei Province, experience campus life at Wuhan University, and build friendships with fellow participants.

The Workshop on Structural and Fire Modeling on Saturday further broadened the academic scope of the program, bringing students together with leading scholars and experts to discuss recent advances and emerging challenges in fire safety and structural engineering. Xu Dongxing, Assistant to the President of Wuhan University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered welcoming remarks. Through interdisciplinary presentations and discussions, participants gained broader perspectives on the latest developments in fire and structural modeling.

The week-long program concluded on Sunday with a Luojia Lecture delivered by Professor Jennifer Wen, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Professor at the University of Surrey. Her lecture brought the summer school to a close after a week of intensive learning, academic exchange, and cultural activities, highlighting Wuhan University’s commitment to promoting interdisciplinary education and international collaboration in fire safety and structural engineering.
